Housekeeping Services

  • Complimentary sheet changes and room touch-up every 4 days.
  • Daily cleans, on an exception basis, can be arranged for $35/clean – must be selected at booking. Available before 1 PM.

Waste Removal

  • COMPOST: There is a compost pail in your kitchen cupboard, under the sink. The compost barrel is in the “forest” at the front of the house, by the garbage enclosure. Chickens can be fed, occasionally, fresh greens and some fruit, small amounts of fresh egg or chicken. Or send a message and we will pick up at our earliest opportunity.
  • GARBAGE – do not leave outside your room. We have chickens, dogs and occasionally, wildlife (raccoons, bears). There is a garbage bin in the “forest”, in the large grey enclosure. Or send a message and we will pick up at our earliest opportunity.
  • RECYCLING – please put cans in recycling bin – black insert. Make sure all is clean – the rest can go in the blue portion. Styrofoam, plastic bags, hard plastic containers, tin cans, used batteries, paper and cardboard, chip containers and blister packs will all be recycled.

The Other Stuff

  • SMOKING, VAPING AND TOKING: Outside. An ashtray is on the concrete table between the 2 Andirondack chairs on the outdoor patio. Please close the doors to your room and do not smoke near other guests. The cookshack is also available on rainy days. All cigarette butts are to be disposed of safely in your patio ashtray, to avoid causing a forest fire. Fees for cleaning and item replacement will be charged for smoking damages, should smoking occur inside. Smell and burn damage, can require heavy cleaning, with room out of service for many days.  Costs for extra cleaning and lots booking nights will be invoiced through the airbnb website, if you should decide to smoke inside.
  • HEATING AND COOLING: There is a heater in your room. A fan can be made available. You will notice a heating duct in your room, which will blow warm or cooling air, based on the thermostat in our home. Please use your the room heater, if you need extra heat. If you find it too warm, let us know as we can block the floor duct, or provide air conditioning through the duct, as we have a heat pump.
  • LANGUAGES SPOKEN: English only, but the owner is proficient in “GOOGLE TRANSLATE”.  Airbnb will translate to your preferred language when booking.
  • COMPLAINTS: Please let us know if you are having an issue, so that the problem can be rectified during your stay.
  • INVENTORY: We keep a detailed list in the unit, for our reference, to ensure all items are in the unit at checkout, and to ensure our next guests have the items they need. If you feel that you want to take something home, please let us know and we can sell it to you at our replacement cost, or let you know where we purchased it.

Heating & Cooling

  • Each unit is attached to the heating and cooling (air conditioning) of the main home. The main duct opening can be blocked or opened, your preference.
  • There is also a radiant heater, under your own control on the wall, as well as a portable fan.
  • The home has air conditioning in the summer, which comes through the ducting from the main home. There is a portable fan available, as well.

Service Animals. Pet Regulations & Information

  • PETS are not approved to stay and Comox Sand Castle under any circumstances. You will be charged a cleaning fee of $100 (more if intense cleaning is required). SERVICE AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS ARE WELCOME, WITHOUT FEES. If you are bringing a service animal, you will not be denied service, however we do ask that you give us a courtesy “heads-up”. The dog must be with you at all times and cannot be left alone in the room. We do have a doggy sleep mat, if you wish. The property domiciled dogs’ and chickens’ outdoor time will be modifi ed so they do not to distract your working animal and your safety.
  • THE DOGS ON THE PROPERTY: They are barky when first meeting new people, but friendly after a few minutes. They are shy with some people. If you have trouble being around dogs, please let us know, so we can arrange their outside time differently. Wanda is brown and white and is an Aussie-Doodle. Winnie is a mutt – Mom was an Aussie-Doodle and Dad was a Chocolate lab. Her bobtail is natural and is a trait that many Australian Shephards have.
  • CHICKENS: Please do not let out, we occasionally do, but there are eagles, hawks, and if the front gate is open, the occasional dog who has dug out under the easy-dig sand at neighbourhood homes. We prefer to be in the yard, when out.

Communication

  • The airbnb platform is the best way of communication, as all bookings must go through in that way. Property insurance rider for the property requires this, since airbnb has “aircover” insurance.
  • Talk to the owner! If there is an issue of any kind, please do not be shy. Guest concerns and needs can only be satisfied by free communication. The units are set up to hotel-quality. Top-level cleaning and amenities. However, if the next time you turn on your lamp, the light bulb fails, we need to hear from you. Or, anything else that may require assistance to ensure your comfort. The owner is always in the mood to ensure your comfort and safety.

Important Booking Information for Our Guest Suites

  • Max # of guests: 2 per unit (no exception). No pets.
  • CHECK-IN 3 PM
  • CHECK-OUT 11 AM.  Late checkouts/checkins are not automatic and are subject to availability between guests, our schedule and energy levels, and potentially, an extra fee. Please ensure you check with us first.
  • HOTEL KEEPERS ACT: All licensed hotels, motels, bnb’s and their guests in the Province of British Columbia must adhere to the law. A copy is posted in the unit.
  • BOOKING AND CANCELLATION INFORMATION – Moderate “Airbnb” cancellation policy, which reads as follows:
    “Guests who cancel withing 5 days of check-in, or during their trip will be charged 1 extra night and refunded 50% of unspent nights. All bookings are made through Airbnb, using the moderate Airbnb cancellation policy. There are 2 self-contained private units for a maximum of 2 guests, Andirondack chairs, dining table and dining chairs provided on the patio space allocated to each unit. Quiet time hours are from 10PM to 7PM, to avoid disturbing another guest or the owner.”

Accessibility

  • No stairs, however there is a small threshold at the private entrance that is approximately 2 inches high.
  • The property is not wheelchair-friendly, but those with reduced mobility should find the unit is accessible.
